Understand How a High-Quality Heat Pump Works In Your Home
Heat pumps use the same cooling cycle as standard air conditioners. In a regular central air conditioner, there are two key components: the indoor evaporator coil and the outdoor condenser coil. The evaporator coil absorbs heat and stores it in special chemicals called refrigerants, which become vapor. The system then pumps the refrigerant vapor to the condenser coil, where a special coil called a compressor forces the refrigerant to become liquid again. That stored heat is released outside, and the refrigerant returns to the indoor coil to repeat the cycle.
In a heat pump, this same cycle can run in either direction. During the cooling season, the heat pump works like an air conditioner, removing heat from the indoor air and releasing it in the outdoor air. In the cooling season, the cycle reverses, absorbing heat from the outdoor air and pumping it into your home. In areas with fairly mild winters, this provides efficient heating and cooling all year long.
